What Descript is great at
Descript turns your video into a transcript, and deleting words deletes the video. It’s a strong pick for podcasts, long YouTube videos and anything where you want control over every word.
Why it can feel like too much for short posts
For a quick Reel you don’t want a full editor. You still have to read the transcript, choose what to cut, add captions, pick music and size it for each app. It’s easier than a timeline, but you’re still the editor.
How Cutleap works instead
There’s no transcript to edit. You upload your clip and type what you want: “make a 30-second Reel, cut the ums, captions in my brand font.” Cutleap does the cutting, captions, music and 9:16 sizing.
Want a change? Type it. “Cut the pause at nine seconds.” “Make the hook faster.” It applies to every version that needs it.
When to stick with Descript
Pick Descript for long videos, podcasts, or when you want word-level control. Pick Cutleap if you post short videos often and would rather not edit at all.
| Feature | Descript | Cutleap |
|---|---|---|
| How you edit | Edit the transcript | Type what you want |
| Best for | Podcasts and long videos | Short posts for TikTok, Reels and Shorts |
| Versions with different hooks | Make each one yourself | Up to 5 from one request |
| Learning curve | Gentle, but it’s still an editor | None, you just ask |
“Make a 30-second Reel from this. Cut the ums and restarts.”
“Add captions in my brand font.”
“Make 3 versions with different opening lines.”

That’s coming on the Pro plan, along with opening any video as an editable project.

Not yet. Videos come out in 9:16 for TikTok, Reels and Shorts. Square and 4:5 are coming.
